Blog Post #1

Homework due Thursday, November 7  For this assignment you will need to listen  again to the chapter 2 Practice Lecture ( called Lecture #1) Go to www.lectureready.com/student. Your username is LectureReady, and your Password is LR1215. Listen t and fill in J, p. 18 . Then read p. 19 and do exercise A ( unrelated to the practice lectures).

Blog Post #1 - due Tuesday, November 12
For your first blog post assignment, you are going to watch and listen to ads from two banks: TD Bank and JP Morgan Chase Bank. Think about their effectiveness: are they effective or not? If so, what is the nature of their appeal?  What different groups does the Chase ad appeal to? Do they appeal to facts or emotions ( as mentioned in the chapter 2 pre-lectures)? Which ones do you like or dislike? Write a brief paragraph ( minimum 5 sentences) to answer these questions . Then feel free to respond to each other's answers.

Thank you all for your very thoughtful comments. All were good! Let me just mention a few:

Philip and Raul, I agree with you that the Chase ad is very interesting and effective, but too long. Romulo, Rox and Gabriela, I agree that the Chase ad plays on people's emotional attachment to certain groups and their individual dreams. Priscilla and Anoud, you point out the power and value of humor as well as brevity in the TD Bank ad.

Next time I will respond to those of you that I missed this time.

  1. I like both bank's ad , but I like TD's ad more. Because I feel TD's ad more close to my life. They close later for people desposit, borrow umbrella to people when outside is rain, offer the pen without the lock. I think they are effective. Chase ad appeal to the individuals, the businesses, the communities and the countries their work with. I think they do appeal to facts.

  2. Both of the Ads are effective by the concept they have. However, Chase Bank Ad is more effective comparing to TD Bank.
    TD Bank appealed in short period Ad based on a single idea showing exactly the service they offer. The opposite for Chase Bank; the Ad appeals in a different perspective, emotional, and very powerful in term of community and services.
    I like the Chase Ad because it makes you feel like you are a part of a unit, there where we have a lot of interactions

  3. ANDRE LUIZ LUCAS MENDES - I like both ads and in my opinion both of then could work. However, TD Bank apply a better approach with the advertisement.
    With a little bit of comedy, TD Bank could show for me why they think that they are the better bank. I liked how they made the commercial and how they putted emotions and comedy together. Chase ad appeals to communities, group of peoples, business and I didn't liked so much.

  4. The both bank ads appeal principally to facts but on different ways. Chase bank tries to persuade new customers showing who they are, their values, the quality of professionals and the satisfying of customers while the TD Bank appeals more directly to the customers necessities. In the Chase ad is possible to realize also an emotional appeal when they relate bank subjects with relationships between father and son, for example. In my opinion the TD Bank ad is more effective than the Chaser ad because through some short ads with about 40 seconds each, they got to show the bank concerns about their costumers, even in simple things such as a pen or an umbrella. Because of this, I prefer the TD Bank ads.

  6. The advertisements of these two banks are effective and appeal to emotions. The TD Bank use services which they have and others banks not, to show to public how their clients are pleased. On the other hand, JP Morgan Chase Bank show how the company do not make just bank's services, but also what they are doing to community and making this a better place for all people. I have liked the TD Bank ad more because this company pass their message in few people. Thus, it is very objective. In addition, presence of humor makes the advertisement funnier to watch.

  7. The TD Bank and JP Morgan Chase Bank's commercial are appealing on consumers sentiment; their appeal is completly related to transmit emotions and feeling for those clients. Both were equally effective. JP Morgan Chase Bank appeals to all classes, such as, business people, veterans, and also community. In contrast, TD Bank approach is based on facts and emotions to catch clients, as an example: to expand the business hours, to be open at seven days a week, and to have a special treatment when it is raining. In my opinion, the ad from JP Morgan Chase Bank, besides commercial production, was more consistant and effective due to the successful examples that they gave and that is the reason I liked more.

  8. Both banks are very effective on their advertisements and they appeal to consumers feelings and facts. The TD Bank has a kind of funny mood on their adds and their biggest differential is that they are open 7 days a week. The Chase add shows how they care about their clients and the community. They tell that it is not just the names of the client that matters but all him/her life and dreams. For example, they invest in a factory whose toys are made by recycled material and in a hospital for sick children. Both adds are impressive bu the appeal to consumers feelings is more powerful on the second one.

  9. The both ads are effective. For me, Chase's ad is much more effective than the TD Bank. Because the Chase ad shows the community that they help, the health institution that they maintain, and they imply that every one is equal; for then doesn't matter if you are a simple costumer or a CEO. In addition, the Chase ads is directed to ordinary people, whereas the TD Bank look directed to a selected group. TD Bank appeals to facts, such as to extend the business hour, give pens, etc. Chase appeals to facts and emotion, like to maintain a health institution to very sick children.In conclusion, I like the both ads, but I preferred the TD Bank ad, because is faster and funny to watch.

  10. Both are effective and appeal to the emotional side. TD Bank was smart using situations that happen in our routine to make the bank more personal, to give a impression that the bank really cares and wants to pleasure its clients. However, the Chase Bank advertisement took my attention. The way that they showed the clients view about the Bank was, at least, strongly effective. From a father who have traveled through the country after the son's dream to a business man who found in the bank a support to build his company. While the bank touches the people with family feeling, they show its efficiency and attention with its clients. The vision the bank has about the market and its concerned about the future and its willing to bring hope to the others, to bring a new beginning to everyone.

  11. I think both of the ads are effective. Chase advertising is very emotional and uses some groups that have most people sympathy like parents, military and children, to impress them. On the other hand, TD Bank's advertising appeals to facts and tells people that they care more about their costumers than the other banks; for example, they open on weekends and have umbrellas and pens to make their costumers feel more comfortable. I liked TD Bank' ads most because they are funny to watch and call my attention more than Chase's ads.

  12. Both of the ads are effective, but I think Chase Bank ad is more effective than TD Bank ads. Because Chase Bank ad appeals to facts and emotions. Unlike TD Bank ads, which appeals to facts more than emotions. So Chase ad is more effective emotionally than TD Bank ads. However, TD Bank ads appeals to facts in a funny way, and it’s fun to watch. I liked Chase Bank ad because I think they show more important things, unlike TD Banks.

  14. The effectiveness of the both bank ads is easy to be seen. TD bank tries to show in its advertisement that they work different, that they think even in the minimum details of customers needs. Chase's ad, though, brings facts and important information about the bank service,work politics and social projects. The Chase ad hold my attention more, besides making me think further about the job they do, since they brought details of it in the ad. Although, the ad is too long. Normally I wouldn't watch an advertisement this long. On the other hand,TD bank was able how they work in a really short time.

  15. After watching these two type of bank, I prefer Td bank even though both of them are effective bank. TD bank use 3 interesting visions to show that they always transfer their pen to make their customer feel comfortable and they work usually. The customer don't have to worry when they have to do some business in Td bank even though it's raining out side because they offer the customer umbrella. On the other hand, Chase's ad brings more facts and important information than TD bank but it's too long. It's not suitable for making an ad because customer will choose the bank which show their best strength in a short minute. As one of the customer, I prefer TD bank.

  16. The advertisements of TD Bank and JP Morgan Chase Bank are effective and emotional. Personally, I like TD bank ads, because they are attractive and creative. They use three simply examples we often experience to emphasize their more comfortable and convenient customer service, for example, open seven days a week and open longer than other banks. On the contrary, chase ad is too long as an advertisement, I don't think television station would put this ad in prime time, it seems like a short film.
